Sidney's
Hairdressing College has been a part of Hutchinson since
1960. The school was started by A. Sidney Oliver. Mr. Oliver began his
career in the 1940's after returning from W.W.II. He was looking for a
temporary career that would keep him warm in the winter.
His "temporary" career turned into a lifetime pursuit. Mr. Oliver
came to
Hutchinson in the 1950's to manage the Wiley's Salon. As a salong
manager he saw the need for a better trained stylist. Seeing that need
he opened the school in 1960. During the 60's and 70's Mr. Oliver had
five salons in Hutchinson, a salon in Great Bend, and a school in
Hays. In 1977 his step-son, Bill Wyer, was encouraged to go to
cosmetology school and consider going into the profession and teach at
the school.
In 1985, Mr. Wyer became President of the school. Mr.
Oliver and his wife DoLores retired in Bella Vista, AR. Mr. Oliver
passed away in 1997. Sidney's is now owned by Bill Wyer and like Sid
Oliver, his goal is to produce the best possible graduate he can,
someone who is salon ready in all aspects of cosmetology.
All
of us at Sidney's realize that our students can not learn without you,
the customer. If this is your first visit or one of many, "Thank
You" for
coming into Sidney's Hairdressing College.
